For about two months It crashed on startup, then was 'updated'. Now the app redirects to the Food Standards Website, which isn’t particularly well designed for mobile use. And is slow as balls.
The food hygiene ratings are ‘Open Data’, which means anyone is free to use them. There are a handful of other apps using this, but they all have bad UX and are generally mildly annoying to use / look at.
All in all a pretty poor show. So I made a better one to teach myself Android development, with a backend that can deliver search results in less than 5 seconds (woot).
It’s available for free, no ads or anything. I don’t have many devices to test on, so any bugs or crashes you may run into would be really useful to know about. Try not to hammer my poor little VPS server too hard.

tl:dr Government agency makes bad, slow app. Made a better/faster one to learn Android development and make the world a better place. Peace.
