I really appreciate your existence. It has already given me so many positive ideas and advices.
Not it’s time for me to ask you.
I go to San Francisco this October for 50 days having a bit more than $3k in a pocket. I’ve never been so far away from home before, I’ve never seen ocean and I am super interested in entrepreneurial community which exists here.
I don’t have a specific plan, but the ideas and goals I have are to attend different events/meetups, to make new connections, to roam around a bit, to think and absorb Silicon Valley’s spirit while I’ll be there. So the basic goal is simple – it is to get that experience.
I want to rent a room somewhere in Mountain View or Palo Alto. Are those places correct for such a goal of trip? Some friends of mine say it will be hard to find a room/apartment for just a month or so. Is it truth? For the first week or so I plan to use CouchSurfing and StartupStay. What do you think?
What to do here in Silicon Valley? What are the best places to meet great people? I found those pages:

http://bases.stanford.edu/
CouchSurfing has also lots of events happening here and there.
Any more suggestions?
Other friends of mine make me scared by saying that you guys have no public transport there, do you? I googled for “San Francisco public transport” and it seems that there lots of it here. Do I need to rent a car?
By the way I am Philip and I am from Minsk, Belarus. My blog is – http://okendoken.com/.
Thank you for your help!
I searched HN for thread like this one but those I found were not appropriate enough and were too old. So I think expect helping me this thread will also help other HN fellows asking the same question.
Thank you again.
