Three years ago, I found a tiny kitten in a trash can in Sofia, Bulgaria. I took him home, named him Lindoro Incapaz, and he became my coding companion during the creation of Petme.
Like many pet owners, I was frustrated with existing social platforms. And creating separate pet profiles always seemed odd – pets are family, not side projects. So I did what any reasonable developer would do - I locked myself at home for a year and built Petme!
It’s been a solo dev journey, learning UX/UI design along the way (built with Flutter!), and pouring my savings into it. But seeing the community grow and people genuinely connect over their pets makes it all worthwhile.
Petme isn't just another social app, I've reimagined how pets exist online:
- Integrated profiles where your pet isn't a separate account, but part of your family - "Petme Talks" to share those ridiculous conversations you have with your pets - Pet relatives feature to add your family members to the pet profiles - Music therapy for pets (yes, really)
Would love to hear your thoughts! Was I crazy to build this? Do pet-focused social platforms make sense to you?
Curious what the HN community thinks!
