It was really hard to get paid for our service work. There was always the pain of delay, uncertainty and the stress it brought to our operations in our bootstrapped service business. The bigger pain was the embarrassment of following up on an invoice.
After trying all the 'expert advice' on getting invoices cleared on time without any good outcome, we thought of fixing it.
The idea is to let service providers tag each task on the project management board with a monetary value, and we get money in our account instantly after the task is approved by the client.
This way, every task becomes a tiny invoice payable after approval. Sort of like an escrow (that the client pre-funds), but for micro-transactions.
This sort of brings work and payment into one workflow rather than treating them as two divergent processes.
This was fun to build and fun to test. Experiencing the high of seeing money in the account instantly once some work was done was crazy. We have like $700,000 worth of transactions in our stripe testing mode. Just for the fun of it.
We still don't know how the market is going to respond, but we believe speed can be a really good motivator for people to try this out.
