I’ve developed an iOS app called Barrier - Social Lock, which is all about managing and reducing screen time on social media and other addictive apps. I built this as a personal crusade against my own social media overuse, using Apple's Screen Time API to keep apps in check. The deal is simple: apps get locked and then re-locked after 10 blissful minutes of use.
Now, when it’s time to unlock an app, there’s a twist: you’re subjected to a 30-second ad. No escape, no alternatives. Why? Because I figured the only thing more annoying than a digital detox is having to watch an ad. It's my sneaky way of adding a bit of a deterrent, and honestly, because everyone loathes ads, it adds a layer of comedic misery to the ordeal.
I'm really keen to get your feedback on Barrier: Are there features you think could make it even better? Any annoying bugs I should squash? I'm all ears for any feedback that can help make Barrier the best buzzkill for app addiction.
Also, I’m curious to hear from other indie devs on your app promotion adventures. How do you get the word out about your iOS apps? What’s worked, what hasn’t?
For anyone game to try Barrier or interested in offering feedback, you can check it out at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/barrier-social-lock/id64482444.... Looking forward to any insightful suggestions!
