I'm thinking about the launch strategy for my edtech/social networking product that can be used by users in any country. Going from launch to product-market fit would require extensive collection of data on user behavior and other attributes and iterating based on that. Would it be advisable to launch in a country like US, where the data protection laws are less strict, so that I can collect as much data was possible ? How much of a legal risk or impediment would data protection laws put in the UK? What work would need to be done to ensure GDPR compliance? For example, word is that Threads didn't launch in Europe for the same reason. If Meta didn't see it worth the hassle, it probably doesn't make sense for any new social network to start with UK as well? I'd be curious to hear your experience.
