Ask HN: What else don't I know? (that the big tech companied have invented?)

So google has TrueTime, which after I read three lines about it is insanely useful. I am trying to figure out how they get it to work. But I was wondering, what else do the "big boys" do well that I don't know about?

(the rabbit hole I started with was a job ad for ex-Googlers "who hated waiting for the ad batch runs to complete" - so batch runs are still a thing :-)
