Over the weekend I built smashvert.com to take the idea and run with it.
I've got an HN checklist here. I've been MVP. I've spent barely any money. I'm iterating. I got super cheap hosting at bluehost and bought a cheap theme from themeforest. I used a creative commons image from flickr for my first post.
But now what? I'm going through the HN posts on bootstrap marketing. I'm trying some reddit ads soon. I'm trying to find all the competition websites I can and submit it. Finding people to take my competition money is going to be the hardest part. Maybe it's too little.
I loved Jame's toothpaste idea but I figure if I initially go for market segments like soda then there will be more leads to try and turn a profit somehow.
I've loved HN for some time, now I'm hoping HN can love me back a little with some advice.
