The US Commerce Department is saying (https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/18/tech/tiktok-download-commerce/index.html ) that as of Sunday:

* "any moves to distribute or maintain WeChat or TikTok on an app store will be prohibited"

* "it will be illegal to host or transfer internet traffic associated with WeChat"

So, we now have the Great Firewall of the United States, finally catching up to the Great Firewall of China? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Firewall)

Is there any meaningful difference?

And if we're blocking that, why aren't we also blocking, say, QAnon conspiracy theories like this one, which also have a deleterious effect on the internal functioning of the US:
