What's with the text shadow trend? It hurts my eyes

Why use text shadow for everything on your page? It makes it painful to read sometimes. Sure, Github looks decent with it, but using it for things like documentation is just evil.

For example - http://dev.twitter.com/doc/geo - it makes me think I need new contacts. Oh God, this one too - http://blog.assetmap.com/2010/12/giving/zuckerberg-person-of-the-year-and-first-ceo-of-our-generation/

The day this trend goes away will be a victory for all readers of the web!
