So, HN, what blogs could you suggest that has a really excellent style? Personally, I would probably focus on expository articles about technical subjects. But I'm open to taking inspiration from any source. What I'm looking for is an author that is successfully able to balance between the verbose, but enjoyable, style that is commonly found in most books, yet compact and entertaining enough for a modern audience with a short-ish attention span.
I have found a few really promising stuff. The things Christopher Olah and Andrej Karpathy are writing are actually pretty great. I usually consider traditional news articles (e.g. NYT) too word-y. But I still have a hope that there exists, somewhere out there, someone who has mastered the craft of writing for an internet audience. The best I've found in the book sphere is Jorge Luis Borges (compact prose and high information density), but it's still not quite there. PGs style is great, but I still find that there is something lacking. I think the rhythm of Chuck Palahniuk is worth taking inspiration from. The stuff David Foster Wallace wrote is often a fun read, but I don't think a lot of us would keep reading to the end of the article if a technical article was written in his style and posted on HN, unless we knew the guy was famous.
