Ask HN: What are some great winter NYC Startup Events/Hackathons?

I have a month-long winter break mid Dec to mid Jan and would love to attend some cool conferences or events related to science/eng/tech. Academic or business.

Two summer examples would be the Tech Crunch Disrupt Hackathon or the recent Worlds Fair Nano. My major is material science and engineering with a concentration in nanotechnology so I love "that" stuff. Goal is to make the most of my break and to learn some things, network, be inspired, etc.
