Rewind back to August 2015. I was about to start my junior year of College studying Marketing. I had enough of the job I had been doing the last two years (working in student housing) and had always been fascinated with Startups and the whole idea of being your own boss. I tried to do some side projects, which failed horribly due to a lack of experience of starting a business. Eventually I decided that if I didn't have the expertise and knowledge in starting a startup, the best place to learn would be a startup.
So I searched and eventually ended up in an intern / part time position at one doing sales. Now I'd done sales for the last two years at student housing, and if we're being honest, I killed it, but it wasn't for me. I wanted to learn something new, not trace my old foot steps.
A key note if you're just beginning at a startup and aren't happy with where you are: you can always change that. If you're at the bottom, the only place you can go is up. I still made sure to do my responsibilities in the sales position but in my off time I worked on content and graphic design. I'd bring in the extra work I'd do outside of work and say, I want to move into this sort of role. With enough bugging, that eventually happened.
